One Hurdle at a Time

“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 3:14 NKJV

Every good track & field athlete who participates in the 100 & 110 meter hurdles and/or the 400 meter hurdles will tell you, they take one hurdle at a time. A runner never concentrates on the last hurdle they simply focus on what's before them. They can't pass the last hurdle until they have over come the one in front of them. As Christians we feel like we should be able to overtake everything at once, that once we have overcome one thing everything should be smooth sailing. Nothing could be farther from the truth in life. We simply have to focus on what is before us, to overcome the next hurdle. The hurdles can represent many different circumstances or situations in life. But every hurdle we overcome we become stronger than we were the one before. Before we know it our spiritual muscles are stronger, but our mind still has to focus on what is before us. We can never take our mind off what we must accomplish, we must never let our mind drift and stray away from Jesus. As we focus on him, we overtake one hurdle at a time. So no matter what you are facing remember it's one hurdle at a time and he will make you an overcomer.
