Looking Back

“Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.”

Joshua 1:2-3 NKJV

It’s good to take time to remember things that have happened in the past, to look back through pictures and videos of times that have passed. Whether its your own memories or those of history in general. To take the time and look at how life used to be. How people once lived, worked, and played. The relationships and stories that took place in people’s lives. It is interesting to hear about our ancestors. We can’t live in the past though. We certainly can’t dwell there. We have to learn from the past, and determine to make our lives better because of it. But we cannot live in the past, we have to live our life here and now. We have to make new memories, new moments that will shape our future. Maybe you have had something happen in your life that has kept you trapped in the past, a moment that you cannot undo, a circumstance that you shaped who you are. No matter what it is, we have to move forward and continually improve with time. We have to let go of our past and leave it behind us. We can glance back but we certainly cannot put our focus completely on the past. My husband always says, “There is no reason to keep staring into the rear view mirror, what’s in it can’t hurt you. But what’s ahead can.” So stop dwelling in the past, and learn to take the necessary steps to move forward. To live every moment of your life to the fullest.
