“How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!””
Isaiah 52:7 NKJV
Ever notice how long it takes you to get up to the mountain top, compared to how quickly you come down the mountain. I’m quite sure gravity place a considerable part in this. But I also know that when we get our momentum going we can really move quickly. Let’s face it going up is strenuous and time consuming, not to mention just plain difficult. But coming down the mountain we seem to get focused on the bottom, and we just effortlessly move rather quickly as we decline. Just for a moment think about how true this is in our spiritual life. It seems to take us a long strenuous time to get to the mountain top, the great, enjoyable moments in our walk. But we don’t seem to stay there, and when we start down off the mountain into the valley, it always seems to happen fast. We get our eyes on the things of the world, and the next thing we know we are at ground zero. We have rather quickly taken ourself from the place where we are close to God, to a place where we wonder if He even hears us. And it happens so fast that we begin to question everything about our Christian walk. Think about it Satan took Jesus to the mountain top to tempt Him with all the Kingdoms of this world. It’s always the things of this world that we are tempted with, the things that take us from the mountain top. We desire those moments that we are close to God just like Abraham, that we are called, “friend of God.” But the trek up the mountain is difficult to say the least. Don’t get discouraged, keep moving, God always has a mountain top for you, just keep moving forward. Keep climbing when you don’t think you can climb any more, and simply trust God to do what He says he will do.
