“Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea; hear me and answer me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught”
Psalms 55:1-2 NIV
Having a conversation with my oldest daughter, she reminded me of when she and her younger sister used to leave their sports practice jersey in their duffle bags. They would wear these jerseys for practice everyday and then pull them out on Friday evening and wash them over the weekend, there was times that they forgot and the jersey had been in there for a couple of weeks. To say it stunk is a slight understatement, it would take your breath away when you opened the bag. My daughter was explaining to me this is how so many people live. Not dealing with the issue or themselves and continuing to tuck away their emotions and feelings and never dealing with them. This is a little foreign to me, because I am a responsive person, I respond immediately to my feelings, which is also a dangerous thing, so I have had to learn balance. But her thought is so true, people hide their emotion until it is more than they can deal with. And ultimately they are the only ones who can deal with it. It’s better to get all the stinky stuff out and let Jesus deal with it, than to think we are hiding it from Him until it almost destroys us. Sometimes we just have to pull everything out and lay it all before Him and say, “Here, help me deal with this!” We have to just get it out!
