Human Touch

“And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.”

Matthew 8:2-3 NKJV

We as a western culture have unfortunately dehumanized our future generations, by simply removing appropriate physical touch. We have taught our children to be more concerned with their cell phones and tablets, then they are if someone is hurting or sad. We have taken our human touch and placed it upon animals instead of reaching out to comfort are fellow man. We have removed the all important touch of a human from our society, causing us to be less likely to actually care about someone. See physical touch brings a connection to someone, whether it’s a hand shake, a hug, a pat on the back, holding hands with someone, or just receiving a scrub on the head. All of these show concern, compassion, actually caring for that human being. The one thing that calms a crying baby is of course being held. It’s that touch of a parent or caring individual that comforts an individual, that unfortunately the world has called evil, or in a more modern terminology that makes it seem like a good idea not to touch some is the wonderful word “inappropriate”. A touch, a hug, a comforting arm was never meant to be inappropriate, but the world has of course turned it into that. But Jesus saw someone that the world said not to touch, and Jesus himself reached out and touched Him. So stop letting the world define human touch, they haven’t gotten anything else right, why would they have this correct. As a Christian we are to be reaching out with compassion and concern and touching the lives of those who are hurting, those who are in need of healing. Bringing comfort to our fellow man.
