Hang On!

““Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.”” Psalms 91:14-16 NKJV

That term “hang on” takes on many meanings. As a mom we hear our name called over and over and over. At times of impatience we tell our kids, “Hang on.”. Simply giving them hope that we recognize they are there, but that we will be a minute getting to them. Then there is that desperate cry of “Hang on!”, to rescue us, to keep us from slipping away, to not let go of what is keeping us from falling. It’s a strange term that many Christians use, “hang on to Jesus”. Simply telling someone to stay close to Jesus to allow Him to be the one that you cling to. The strange part starts in the same breath when we tell them to “Let go”. I know by this time most people are thinking what, “‘Hang on, let go!’ Make up your mind!”. They possibly think we have lost our mind. But the reality of it is, you have to let go of what’s in your hands and what you are trying to control, in order to hang on to Jesus. In order for us to cling to Him, we have to release all those things that are holding us. So yes, hang on to Jesus, and yes, let go of what has held you prisoner. The tighter you hang on to Him, the less likely you are to slip.
