“Or else, if you will not let My people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies on you and your servants, on your people and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground on which they stand. And in that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, in which My people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there, in order that you may know that I am the Lord in the midst of the land.”
Exodus 8:21-22 NKJV
I do not like flies, there is nothing about them that I like. They are annoying and nasty little insects. They carry all kinds of filth with them. And they will literally almost drive you insane when you are trapped in a room with them. They are the true description of a pest. I cannot imagine the land being filled with swarms of flies. I cannot imagine the sound in the land that day, I am quite sure it would have almost drove them insane. To this day in Egypt flies are considered to be a plague, they are thought to carry only bad. But the amazing part of this scripture is the fact that God kept these flies from entering the land of Goshen, where God’s people dwelt. God will go to great extremes to set you apart, to make sure that you realize that you belong to Him. He is always putting things before you so that you will choose His ways over the ways of the world. So the next time you see a fly just remember God used something as small as a fly to separate His people from the Egyptians and He will use anything He wants to keep you separated from the things of this world.
