"So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.””

Matthew 20:16 NKJV

We call it a little friendly competition, you know the annual backyard corn hole contest. But wait is goes much deeper than that, who’s motorcycle goes the fastest, or who can run the fastest, lift the most weights, who’s the prettiest. The list goes on and on and on. We have made everything in our society a competition from races to beauty pageants, to car shows, to who has the biggest house, who makes the most money. It never stops, our society is eat up with it. We want the biggest, fastest, best of everything. We want to look the best, be the best, it never stops. How draining this has become. A generation that is consumed with the next best thing. But as a Christian we have to check ourselves, are we caught up in this cycle? Because Jesus tells us, “the last shall be first and the first shall be last.” So according to the Word of God we have to be careful not to get our priorities mixed up. If we are so busy being first or best in everything, have we missed the mark, are we truly striving after the heart of Jesus? Maybe it’s time we put someone else’s needs before ours. Time to stop and hear someone else’s story, give them a shoulder to lean on, instead of being too busy to stop and take the time to listen. Maybe it’s time we put ourself last instead of our wants and needs being put first. Jesus tells us to take the time to take care of the least of these. Stop competing with everyone and start caring for everyone, they too are a soul in which Christ died for!
